Parent Resources for Cedella Marley’s “One Love”

This free resource includes playdough mats with instructions on how to make tea dyed playdough and instructions on how to deepen your child’s understanding of the book with an interactive read aloud.

What is an interactive read aloud?

An interactive read aloud is a form of purposeful and planned reading instruction in the classroom. I have taken this teaching idea and made it parent/family friendly to help you teach your child to make deeper connections from books you read at home.

The structure of an interactive read aloud is:

  • Introduce the text.
  • Read the text.
  • Discuss the text.
  • Revisit the text (parents are familiar with the re-reading process)
  • Respond to the text.

The format of these interactive read alouds is for you to use to give you a jumping point of questions to ask, stopping points, and interaction cues. You do not need to have this beside you while you read to your child. I want to provide ideas for particular books to help you deepen your child’s understanding. My interactive read alouds are design for use in the home with a toddler, 1 – 3 years of age.

You will see an outline format based off of page numbers. There will be one or more questions or interaction cues. The intention is not to do all the questions each and every day, but to pick one question/interaction cue.

To be coherent and quick I am using language I commonly use with my son. Please interchange pronouns and vernacular to fit the needs of your family. I am aware that all households and families look different make this read aloud fit your family’s needs.
